WELCOME, World Issues 120

I will start posting when we have major assignments due, etc.

THIS FRIDAY, September 27th: MAP QUIZ: know North America and Carribean maps

Just a reminder that Friday is the Terry Fox Run, rain or shine, so dress appropriately.
Terry Fox ran in all kinds of weather, and served as a leader for many future cancer-related fundraisers and awareness programs; a true Canadian Hero, just a young man himself. You all know why I am a proud supporter of the Terry Fox Run, and I challenge you to do your best to raise money on behalf of your classmate, Dalton.

Social Ventures

Notes:
Social Ventures (as opposed to Commercial Ventures)

What is meant by "Social Responsibility"?

With a partner, research and 5 national or international companies that promoe specific social causes.
(ex. Nike ... Livestrong)
Provide a detailed 1-2 paragraph on each company's cause.
Choose ONE of the 5 to research further, and present to your classmates;
use power point, poster or prezi to do this.
Be sure and sign up as soon as you decide, to avoid duplicating companies.

Classes to work on this: Thursday, Friday and Monday.
PRESENT to Class mates: TUESDAY, April 9th.

March update!

My apologies, class! I thought I had been updating your work on here more than this...but I have been posting most things on Engrade, and will be marking assignments over the break, so check that once in awhile.
The two main things we have on the go right now:
~review for a quiz on TUESDAY, March 12th. (Review sheets were given out before break, make sure you pick it up on Monday)
~Cookie Craze: We made our cookies in groups, and were supposed to be selling them before break. With two storm days, I froze everyone's cookies, and will take them out on Sunday for selling on MONDAY...be prepared! Whatever you need to be doing to advertise/promote your group's baking, make sure your group is working together on Monday.
~oops, there are three things!   INTERVIEW a local ENTREPRENEUR...you have the guidelines, and need to be getting your photos ready...Wed/Thur we will work on the Prezis, Powerpoints or Storyboards in the Access Center. Don't forget, this major project is due THURSDAY, MARCH 14, with presentations being shared with the class.

The End!

Well, it has certainly been a pleasure having all of you in class.
Individual and Family Dynamics, as you have learned is a bit of a different course...a lot of introspection is necessary, as you learn how you fit in your family, and in your community.
Thank you...for your honesty, and your willingness to share.
I appreciated your Vision Boards, and I have enjoyed watching the changes over the past few months that have taken place.
I asked for your feedback today on the course, and have read them all.
I am glad the projects were relevant. I  hope some of them will help you as you move off island next year. Some of you questioned the relevance of some of the guest speakers. I agree ...not all of them were relevant for each of you. However, I hope you took their stories to heart...because all of them had some experiences you could relate to or will learn from, even if their career did not appeal to you.
As most of them stressed, your outlook changes as you move away from home, and as you start post secondary schools. Many changed their visions within 10 years, as pesonal experiences changed.
Never be afraid of change.

I will leave marked assignments outside my door next week, please stop and pick them up.

NO exam!!! Good luck on the others you write! All assignments and prohects are due by NEXT THURSDAY, January 24th.

Check engrade for your mark.
Some adjustments were made in lieu of your final project replacing your exam.
